Let the Journey Begin

As we begin the process of journaling, we came to learn how everything hinges (remember the door example, hinges hold the door together) on chapter 3. Because of sin, we have been separated from God. It says in Genesis 3:3 that if you eat from the tree you will "die." Meaning that you will be separated from God. The death that we suffer is a separation of God and the loss of a perfect relationship with Him. We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) and that God is reconciling (makes right) us.

With all that said:
Respond to one of these questions (You don't have to respond to all, just one)

1) How does it feel to know that everything you do is not perfect?
For a lot of us we like to think that we are "good" people, that we have it all together.
But to understand that we are not as good as we think we are is a hard thing to deal with.

2) Where do you see yourself in the garden?
With Eve, grabbing the fruit and wanting to be like God? Or with Adam, following along and doing what others tell you.

Remember, you have to respond to one of these questions as well as someone else comment.

i think im the same way as stephen. i would not want to be the first one to do something wrong, but if everyone else is doing it, it would make it seem kinda good.

I agree with Jordon, I would have been a leader.

Sorry, it's Jordan not Jordon!!!

In the garden, I would probably still be tempted by the serpent, yet not try the fruit. Or, try hard not to.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Josh(hey, Joshy!) I am a leader more than a follower.

Anonymous said...

Oh, and good comment Rick.

Anonymous said...

i would rather be a leader like eve because i think God gave me a gift in leading others. however i am not perfect so without Gods help i would be nothing.

I am like Adam, doing what others say is fun and enjoyable.

I think that the difference between Christianity and every other religion is that Christianity is based on love. Everything else is just a byproduct for instance: grace, joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness, and so on. So that even though I'm a sinner and there is nothing I can do to change that....it is still an incredible feeling to know that I am constantly being backed up by the love for my Christian friends and ultimately by the love of God. No matter how many sins I have committed the love that God has for me remains inseparable because of his blood.

i agree with Brandon C im glad im not the only one who sins and most
times it does make me feel better

Anonymous said...

Mr.Reed, somtimes I know when I do somthing wrong. Usually when I know iv'e done somthing wrong I ask for forgiveness. I not perfect and I never will be so there is nothing I can do in this situation.

Anonymous said...

i agree with rickie because i know im not perfect, but i know i can ask Jesus for forgivness.

Anonymous said...

BRANDON B

I THINK I WOULD BE LIKE ADAM FOLLOWING OTHERS

Anonymous said...

I AGREE WITH BRANDON C

Anonymous said...

I feel like a sinner

Anonymous said...

wow! alot of people say they are leaders. but without followers there are no leaders so i thinks its ok to be a follower as long as you know that your leader is doing the right thing.

Anonymous said...

i think that alot of christians know that they dont do everything perfect but still think they are good and better than the people who havent accepted Christ

Anonymous said...

i am a leader but i still agree with ricky because when everyone else is doin somethin i want to do it

Anonymous said...

im with Rickie, God is amazing and he can forgive anyone who asks for forgiveness. but im not sure if i would be like adam or like eve. Its hard putting myself in there position when i already know what the outcome is. i would probably take the the fruit but only after someone else did. i rarely do something very wrong if some one else i know hasnt done it.

Anonymous said...

I am like Adam because I am the guy who is usually in the background of things.

i agree with Caleb C. It really does stink that we live sinful lives and it is impossible to live a perfect life. But it is comforting knowing that no matter how much i sin God still forgives, even though that isnt an excuse to sin.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Jacob. Even though we try hard to do everything right, we still mess up and it is our responsibility to go to God and admit what we did wrong. We can not hide from God.

Anonymous said...

lance is always corect and he still is man, yea aus r christians and we try and hide our sins and act like we didnt do it but we all are sinners nomatter who you are. but i think alot of people are right on here, but lances stood out to me i dont why but o well.and i hope all of the people in my bible class will be the best of friends, man. keep ROCKIN CHS!

Anonymous said...

i would like to know how the world would be if adam and eve didnt take the fruit, it would be kind of pointless yet interesting to know. I guess heaven will be like the garden. Ill have to wait until then.

Anonymous said...

one more comment, i think one of the worst things you can do is manipulate somoen to try to get them to do something wrong. for leaders this is very easy to do, so i think leaders should be very careful about what they do and say.

i agree with josh willbrand

Anonymous said...

Hey mr. Reed I'm doing this from a blackberry.
The fact that eve was the leader in this situation considering ,in the bible. Man was always the first to do do something and they werethe leaders. I find my self to be more of an Adve a leader in some areas while a follower in others, if I had to chhose I'd say I'm more Adam than eve because I and most if not all people would sooner follow. Than lead because would you rather bunji jump 1st or 2nd. After you know and have seen it's safe?

Anonymous said...

I can relate to matts comment about people follow sin because it looks like that other side of the fence where the grass is greener until u get there then it all changes

Chad T said...

I know that we can't be perfect and I need to remember this. This should keep us humble.

Anonymous said...

im with t-money i am usually pushed into sin not the first to sin. i am also a leader/follower like christian. i usually do my own thing but i do have friends that i respect and trust.

Anonymous said...

I feel as if I have a little bit of both in me : Leader (Eve) and Follower (Adam). For one I am easily influenced by those around me, but I know that I have some influence on others as well. For me, impressing my friends is one of things I try to do the most. I see now, that in trying to impress my friends I am being influenced by them and creating a negative influence on others around me.

Anonymous said...

unfortunately were not perfect and sinning isnt new to me so sometimes i sin without realizing it. i guess ill have to learn to think before i act.

Anonymous said...

well i think i would be eve because i would want to follow God and do what he says, and not do what others tell me to.

Chad T said...

i agree with Kameron because sometimes its hard to do the right thing especially if everyone is doing the wrong thing

Anonymous said...

I agreee with sam we all are not perfect and we do sin , but we have to ask GOd for forgiveness.

Anonymous said...

Knowing that all that I do is imperfect and smudged compared to the love and glory of the Almighty God is something to be thankful for but it also makes me feel like I am inferior. That, no matter what, I can never live up to the righteousness God demands from us. I will always slip up because it is my nature, but God is always there to pick me up when I slip and wipe my slate clean again. Coming to grips with the sinner that I really am helps me to find my new identity in Jesus who frees from the bondage of sin. He took my burden on the cross so that my imperfection wouldn't ultimately lead to death, but gave me an escape to eternal life.

Anonymous said...

Im happy 2 know that we weren't created 2 be perfect because we would have to live our entire lives without messin up just one time...

Anonymous said...

Jamie u r so right! I would have probably written more but I just don't have the time... =(

J Hizzayy said...

"though sometimes i can be a follower... i know we would all like to be a leaders, me 2."

J Hizzayy, I disagree with you for several reasons. One being, Not all of us want to be leaders. If you look at most of the comments on this page they all say that they feel like Adam in that they follow others. You are right on some level, we can all be a little bit of both, but your statement is easily disagreed with for you state for everyone. Indeed some people feel like leaders, but the majority of people on this page feel as if they are both, or the opposite of a leader. I myself, feel as if both reside in me. I have influence over some and realize it but I also realize that my friends around me influence me as well.

i agree with bball christain's last comment something might look good till you get to the other side like with little sins or even like drugs or alchohol you say "ill only do it once" but then your stuck in the lie or your addicted to it it may look fun or sound fun at first but your decisions now still affect you when you get older

Anonymous said...

I know I can't do everything perfect, but I would try to do my best and ask God to help me.

I find myself relating to Adeve (Adam and Eve). In areas where I feel confident I would be like Eve because I would lead others. On the other hand in situations where I'm not confident (ie. skydiving) I would be more likely to follow.
I would rather be like Eve who yearns to be more like God but the idea of leading others down the wrong path scares the heck out of me.
